The Jesus Christ Show by Cortney Fielding from Watt Way

Jesus Will Return...
After These Messages.
A radio talk show host poses as Jesus,
and wins a loyal, sometimes critical, audience.
By Cortney Fielding

esus was a carpenter.

Now, apparently, he works for Clear Channel. While once he roamed the desert spreading his father’s word, today, the son of God stays put inside a Burbank office complex, where he plays host to his own call-in radio show. Let the people come to him for a change.

Every Sunday from 6-9 a.m., Jesus comforts the afflicted, engages atheists in theology debates and doles out free advice to the lovelorn like some holy savior-Dr. Joyce Brothers hybrid.

And with close to 130,000 listeners so early in the morning, he is number one in his time period.

      No, it’s not a joke.

The voice behind “the Jesus Christ Show” is Neil Saavedra, a 36-year-old, tattooed Mexican-American punk rock ex-Catholic who spends his earthly time as the marketing director for KFI-AM 640, the Los Angeles talk radio station that airs his show, designing promotional billboards for Dr. Laura and home-town Libertarian-bent news personalities, John and Ken.

Tall, trim, fashionably dressed with a shaved head, manicured goatee and bulky metal jewelry adorning his body, he's been characterized as everything from “sexy” in the press to  “someone who looks like he could absolutely kill you at any moment,” by co-workers. Bottom line- he doesn’t really look the part.
Saavedra’s candor is just as unlikely as his appearance. While he plays the son of God three hours a week, he's remarkably down to earth the remaining 165. Listen to him talk about past flirtations with godlessness and hear him riff about a nine-year relationship that culminated in a less-than-one-year marriage, and one wonders what makes this guy think he has the right to be  the Easter bunny, let alone Jesus.

Off-air, he is the first to admit he’s just as human and confused as the next guy – he’s even dating an atheist.

But on air, his charismatic, no-baloney, compassionate Jesus is attracting a fan base far broader than what he once had as a host on Christian radio – from which he defected out of boredom in the 1990s.

Saavedra’s Jesus is outspoken, and his positions aren’t always in line with conservative Christians. They don’t always jive with liberals, either. He despises the way gays are treated in the Church (although he believes homosexuality is a sin akin to overindulgence in food or drink), and isn’t afraid to voice either opinions.

While his show attracts the traditional, older, church-going Christian radio audience, it also reaches those who feel disconnected from the church, young adults, gays, atheists, and even the occasional Rabbi.  They’re all tuning in.

No. 1 in his time slot, Saavedra is a charismatic, no-baloney, compassionate Jesus – and he admits he’s just as confused as the next guy.
It’s 5:58A.M., on a Sunday morning. Saavedra, wearing a distressed suede button-down shirt and boot cut jeans, is sealed tight inside KFI’s state of the art soundproof production booth with his elbows on the table, hands covering his eyes as he rocks back and forth to Jewish rapper Matisyahu’s “King without a Crown.” Music is how he gets in the Jesus zone.

Laying next to him is the same stack of books he brings into the studio every week. Among them are his study Bible, its black imitation-leather cover well worn, “The compact dictionary of doctorial words : Easy to understand definitions of theology words for all who study” and the “The Jewish book of why.”

He recites a silent prayer as a pre-recorded voice goes out over the airwaves.

“Two thousand years ago, he walked this earth -teaching, guiding, loving and preparing to make the ultimate  sacrifice…  “what if today you could talk to him, laugh with him, cry with him, not Just through prayer, but through the radio.. You’re listening to the Jesus Christ Show..”
“And now here’s our host, Jesus Christ.”
After a musical introduction he’s on. For the next three hours. Neil only exists on commercial breaks.

Sewing with Al Sharpton at 3PM and Blogging the Newsbusters

Sewing with Al Sharpton at 3PM and Blogging the Newsbusters.......it's a tough job but someone has to do it.

It took a lot of thinking to reply and thank you for your beautiful response.  Actually I did not watch Rev. Al Sharpton too often as it did not fit in my day schedule, but after Bill kept berating him I became more curious, even though I basically did enjoy Rev. Al and liked him.

I also watch Chris Matthews each day on MSNBC so I changed my routine so I could see what was going on.  Well, as a dem I did like his show and then as time passed i noticed Reverend Al Sharpton was quite an inspirational and humble individual, as I just kept casually listening to his words.

He has said he has made errors and he is sorry about that, he has said he likes to keep fighting for civil rights not just about race but about anyone that has been judged unfairly and he also used Gandhi and non-violence as a model.

He is also quite inspirational talking about his diet and like me, he did not have a dad and he really enjoyed and valued the attention he received from James Brown.

I do not know if you listen to the Jesus Christ Show but like that radio show on Sun mornings right before CBS Sunday Morning, Rev Al has offered me a certain peace--not just talking about politics but about life, in general.

I do not think anyone could say he has not worked hard for civil rights--agree or disagree--and it is a wonderful thing to have the first African-American President in the White House.  I imagine he was very proud to go to the state dinner.

On that idea, alone, regardless of political affiliation, can't Bill O'Reilly, Levin and others be happy for Reverend Al and other people that are simply so happy about President Obama.

For Bill O'Reilly to constantly try to minimize the effects of past racism in America is just not right or realistic.

Just in South Africa in recent times people have suffered.

Not talking about politics, now, but shouldn't we acknowledge this injustice just as Jesus would have noticed these situations.

So again, why does Bill constantly have to rant about his hatred of Reverend Al Sharpton and call him a thug.  It is hurtful to me.

Again, Bill is acting like an arrogant teenager in the ilk of Eddie Haskell who cannot come to terms with life.

This is where I am coming from........

and now I have Sewing with Al Sharpton at 3PM and

the tea party with Chris Matthews at 4.

Bill O at 5, finish with

Piers Morgan at 6 and then the

big dog walk at 7.........unless Ronnie starts bugging me earlier then everything gets all messed up.

Yes, I do find the words of Al Sharpton to be soothing.

I hope you respond      and thank you for your discussion.

The Jesus Christ Show: Jesus Christ Talks Helping Others

Jesus said today......

Well, try not to invite the devil in to dinner.........

You can help someone out of a situation but you cannot help someone out of a lifestyle.....

Talking about a one time situation when a person needs assistance as oppossed to an alcoholic lifestyle.

Jesus said it much more eloquently.....I love the Jesus Christ show and I listen to it every Sunday morning.

Thank you Neil for giving us this great show--I really like it when you explain the Bible to me.

The Jesus Christ Show is one of the best things on the radio...

here is a link to the website.......listening to the podcast would be of a much higher quality than this blog writer trying to paraphrase the words.

Jesus Christ, Anthony Weiner and Hate

Forever a radio listener I tune in to the Jesus Christ Show every Sunday morning.....I listen to part of the show until I run to watch my very favorite television show of all time.....CBS Sunday Morning.....and yes ,Bill Geist is the most perfect interviewer and reporter but that is another story for another time......

............................

Dear Jesus...I really enjoyed your show today and I am glad you talked about Anthony W........why, well, I almost do not know what to think about him.  Yes, I know he is wrong and I liked the way you explained it and I have to agree with what you said, but I do have a problem.  I am almost embarrassed to say I don't care.  I know everyone wants me to care but in the honest truth, I do care, but not that much....

Seriously, there are so many bigger problems to think about, not just big world problems like hunger and sickness and clean drinking water and all of that but I am also talking about hate.

Here is something that really troubles me in politics if you will.  Bill O'Reilly absolutely hates Reverend Al Sharpton.  He has a vendetta against him that will not stop.  Yes, I used to be married, in fact  to a Bill O'Reilly type, arrogant and yelling and always making fun of  someone they thought lesser of them.. ...that would most often be me.  It was horrible and humiliating.  I can practically feel the hatred this mas seems to possess in his soul.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, sending pictures is quite inappropriate for someone asking for the trust of the people..... but again, this is so little to me.  Hating someone or a group of people or being arrogant is worse, in my humble opinion.  To me, trying to spread hate is the real sin.

Really, I think most men  will cheat given the opportunity and I think it is human nature for a man to want to have an interaction with a beautiful young girl.......no, it's not right but it is the way things exist...well, it isn't new is  it......it is a waste of time to keep bringing it up---talking about about two willing adults.

I just think there are other more horrible problems in the world and hatred is one of them.

I hope  you have time  to respond because I do value your words and I am not trying to be disrespectful in any way.

thank you for your time.
