Anthony Wiener fires back at heckler

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • NEW: Weiner says hecklers should expect he'll go at them if they say "vile things"
  • New York mayoral candidate gets into a heated exchange in a Brooklyn bakery
  • A man calls out Weiner, who is Jewish, for being "married to an Arab"
  • Man calls Weiner "disgusting;" the ex-congressman calls man a "jackass"
(CNN) -- Beleaguered New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner got into a war of words Wednesday with a man who lashed out at him for being "married to an Arab," in addition to chastising the former congressman about his well-documented sexting scandal.
The incident began inside a bakery in Brooklyn's Borough Park neighborhood, where the man yelled out to Weiner, who had just bought cookies and an iced coffee, "You're a real scumbag."
Weiner offered a quick retort, then said to no one in particular, "Very nice, that's a charming guy right there." It's then that the man, later identified as Saul Kessler, responded: "Married to an Arab."
The comment is an apparent reference to Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, who works for Hillary Clinton. Abedin's late father was an Islamic scholar from India and her mother, a sociologist, is from Pakistan. Weiner is Jewish, as were most of those inside the Brooklyn bakery.

The Democratic candidate responded with, "Very nice, in front of children... That is charming." Kessler didn't stop talking, even as Weiner was leaving the bakery, saying, "You are disgusting, disgusting."
"It takes one to know one, jackass," Weiner replied.
The two then went face-to-face, with Kessler accusing Weiner -- who resigned in disgrace after 12 years in Congress representing part of New York City after admitting to sending sexually suggestive images and carrying on inappropriate relationships with women over the Internet -- of doing "disgusting things, and you have the nerve to even walk around in public."
A visibly agitated Weiner responded,"And you're a perfect person? You're my judge? What rabbi taught you that?"
At one point, Kessler implored Weiner to "think about your wife, how could you take the person you're most closest to ... and betray her?"
The mayoral hopeful then accused Kessler of acting like he is superior, even though he doesn't "have the moral authority to judge me."
The back-and-forth went on for about a minute longer before Weiner left the bakery. He seemed to quickly brush off the confrontation, saying, "He has every right to (challenge me). It's America."
The Weiner campaign released a video of Wednesday's exchange, a version of which also was captured by blogger Jacob Kornbluh. Talking with reporters later in the day, Weiner described what happened as "just some enthusiastic exchange with a voter."
"Look, you're allowed to say stuff to me," said Weiner, who, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday, trails three other Democratic candidates ahead of next week's primary. "But if you're going to say vile things about me and my family, you should expect that I'm going to go back at you.
"Hecklers don't get a chance to necessarily get the last word if they cross the line."
Reached by CNN later in the day, Kessler admitted calling out Weiner for being "married to an Arab."
"It's just a certain feeling I have as a Jew," said the 51-year-old real estate manager, explaining his remark. "And my attitude is that -- not all Arabs -- but, in general, ... they want to kill every Jew."
Kessler said of a Jewish person marrying into such a family: "It's like a betrayal."
Kessler also said Weiner has bothered him for some time. Kessler called him a "phony." But Kessler said he should have acted differently.
"(Given that I felt) a little bit of anger, I probably shouldn't have said it," Kessler said about the Arab comment. "I shouldn't have called him a scumbag."
"But it was in the heat of the moment."

Bill O'Reilly--Out of his League and Out of his Mind

I'll take Anthony Weiner or Eliot Spitzer any day over a yeller like O'Reilly.

Frankly, O'Reilly is not only code for racism these days but he is also conducting a war on women.

Women today deserve the right to chose over their own person--who, what , when where and gender--all of the options to be available to them including education and contraception.

Fully funded and planned parenthood--the women deserve the best--not an uniformed old yeller that refuses to listen to the facts.

About 20 years ago, Holland--condoms advertised on the Cartoon Network--right, noticed on a vacation--let the US catch-up.

Bill O'Reilly--out of his league and out of his mind.

Jesus Christ, Anthony Weiner and Hate

Forever a radio listener I tune in to the Jesus Christ Show every Sunday morning.....I listen to part of the show until I run to watch my very favorite television show of all time.....CBS Sunday Morning.....and yes ,Bill Geist is the most perfect interviewer and reporter but that is another story for another time......

............................

Dear Jesus...I really enjoyed your show today and I am glad you talked about Anthony W........why, well, I almost do not know what to think about him.  Yes, I know he is wrong and I liked the way you explained it and I have to agree with what you said, but I do have a problem.  I am almost embarrassed to say I don't care.  I know everyone wants me to care but in the honest truth, I do care, but not that much....

Seriously, there are so many bigger problems to think about, not just big world problems like hunger and sickness and clean drinking water and all of that but I am also talking about hate.

Here is something that really troubles me in politics if you will.  Bill O'Reilly absolutely hates Reverend Al Sharpton.  He has a vendetta against him that will not stop.  Yes, I used to be married, in fact  to a Bill O'Reilly type, arrogant and yelling and always making fun of  someone they thought lesser of them.. ...that would most often be me.  It was horrible and humiliating.  I can practically feel the hatred this mas seems to possess in his soul.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, sending pictures is quite inappropriate for someone asking for the trust of the people..... but again, this is so little to me.  Hating someone or a group of people or being arrogant is worse, in my humble opinion.  To me, trying to spread hate is the real sin.

Really, I think most men  will cheat given the opportunity and I think it is human nature for a man to want to have an interaction with a beautiful young girl.......no, it's not right but it is the way things exist...well, it isn't new is  it......it is a waste of time to keep bringing it up---talking about about two willing adults.

I just think there are other more horrible problems in the world and hatred is one of them.

I hope  you have time  to respond because I do value your words and I am not trying to be disrespectful in any way.

thank you for your time.

Up With Anthony W, Down With O'Reilly

Sex is good, hate is bad.........

Hello and how are you today?

I could care less about phone sex between two willing adults, married or not............but I do care about public hatred on display.

Does anyone know what to do about the horrible hatred of Bill O'Reilly?

I like to write about O'Reilly and Reverend Sharpton and it is probably obvious that I am a dem and I really like President Obama.

I sometimes watch O"Reilly for comic relief but lately with this whole idea of the President Obama talking about Trayvon Martin and the national conversation on race has really set O'Reilly off into many rants, as you well know and have reported, about race and I guess he feels he can solve the issue in 15 minutes.

But now, his endless rant on Al Sharpton is becoming disgusting--I can't stand it.  He is bordering on insanity.  I think, just my opinion, he has a deep hatred and disrespect for everything of color and he is definitely a racist.  I think he was always code for racism but now his very true colors are showing.  I don't know if he will eventually go off the edge completely but I suspect not because he loves the podium of his show.

I almost can't watch him any longer--even for writing material.  He's gone insane--and his hate for Al Sharpton is so over the top he almost makes me sick.  It is like he is taking his whole hatred for everything of color, including Muslim, and piling it all on Al Sharpton.  His exuberance in deriding Al Sharpton is really getting too much for me to handle--I'm cringing when I watch him.

The thing is, if you actually listen to Rev. Sharpton he has very soothing words, as a Reverend would,  and he tries to be encouraging without violence.  Last evening he cited Ghandi and Martin Luther King and humbly stated he is still evolving.

It's like he doesn't even want Al Sharpton to talk--he just wants him to go away just like the one juror describing Trayvon Martin--he should have just gone home.

I've been at the dinner parties at the rich neighbors, the ROWGs that love Rush, and heard the comments between martini sips about what should happen to different cultures; it's not very nice and I won't repeat it here but I do know what some people think--I used to hear it from my grandfather, too.

Well, what do you think?  Can anything be  done about this guy--he is so full of hatred.

Just my idea for a story or what, I don't even know, but I think something should be done.  Maybe President Obama should say something like he did to Rush over Sarah Fluke--that stopped him in his tracks.  Maybe people should approach the advertisers of Fox News re: the O'Reilly show.

Not to mention he is laying waste to the republican party and encouraging racism in the United States and misrepresenting us to all the advanced nations of the world--it's embarrassing.

Another thing--Bill went on CBS and tried to say he is the only one looking out for the average folks.  He can't seem to understand the average folks are a beautiful coat of many colors.  That is and always has been the history of the United States.  If anyone is speaking to the average folks it is Reverend Sharpton.  During those horrible events in Cleveland the neighborhood watch men were being interviewed on Politics Nation by Reverend Al.  Oh  my gosh, they just started talking to him as if they knew him forever.  Seriously, Reverend Al is the person looking out for the average citizen, not Bill O'Reilly.

I really don't think that O'Reilly understands that President Obama won the election and he is of color and that is the make up of our country now; different people, other that Bill types are in power and have representation is high positions, such as Eric Holder, and more fair laws will eventually come to pass.

I guess like all bigots Bills is little and afraid, but it is starting to show in a way that is very uncomfortable to me.

Anyway, thank you for your time, I really do appreciate it and your very respected website and I do feel strongly about what I said--I think something definitely needs to be done but I do not know what and I hope you do.

Sincerely,

Chloe Louise, the ronnie republic
