Rolling Stones Finally Let Mick Taylor Loose On Sticky Fingers Classics At Staples Center In Los Angeles

Written by  on 05.21.2013 | Mick TaylorNewsRolling StonesVideos

Last night was the evening Rolling Stones fans have been waiting for since it was announced that former guitarist Mick Taylor would be joining the band as a guest on their 50 and Counting Tour. Up until yesterday’s show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the use of Taylor has been sparse with “The Other Mick” only turning up to perform on Midnight Rambler each night and on (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction at a handful of shows. At The Staples Center Taylor performed on a total of four songs, two of which were long-awaited tour debuts.
Instead of welcoming the calvalcade of special guests like Gwen Stefani, John Mayer and Dave Grohl like they had at previous 50 and Counting Tour, The Stones made good use of the guest that’s been there all along – Mick Taylor. Taylor first emerged seven songs into the show for a tour debut version of Sticky Fingers track Sway, which was played by request. Mick came back three tunes later for what was once his signature song – Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’. Both Sticky Fingers tracks were tour debuts and were the first versions Taylor played on since he parted ways with The Rolling Stones in 1974. The guitarist returned later in the show for both Midnight Rambler and (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.
The Rolling Stones also dusted off the 1978 single Far Away Eyes off Some Girls for its tour debut. To start the encore, the USC Thornton Chamber Singers emerged for You Can’t Always Get What You Want before Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Satisfaction brought the show to a close.
Watch Mick Taylor perform Sway and Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’ with The Rolling Stones for the first time in nearly 40 years…

Jagger and Taylor Sway LA: Two Beautiful Micks

Sway LA:  Two Beautiful Micks--Is Jagger Finally Unshackled From Insult Ridden Keith Richards with the re addition of Taylor to the Stones.

Mick Jagger and Mick Taylor--happy and re-energized.....

It seems that way--new music--old music rediscovered--new-old talent and a breath of fresh air added to the ever popular Rolling Stones

Well everyone I know, all the stones fans I know--have been desperately waiting for this Stones moment--to hear Mick Taylor play Can't you Hear Me Knocking, Sway, Midnight Rambler with the Rolling Stones.

Its puts Keith and Ronnie in a different class--Jagger is respectable--Keith is not the only extremely talented guitar player in the group.

The re-addition of Mick Taylor slightly usurps Keith's hold on Mick.  As if Keith Richards can dish out any insult at any time always justifying it with a threadbare excuse.  Richards acts as if he is so talented--the only engine driving the train--he has license to do or say whatever he pleases.

Enter Mick Taylor........

from Kleermaker 1000.........

First time we can hear 'Knocking' played live by The Stones with Taylor.
Incredible! Finally they've opened the door for Taylor after all his knocking!

  • Finally. Mick Taylor has been shredding this song for decades, his song. Glad he got his few seconds in the sun. Wish they had let him play for another 10 mins or so on the second solo. Check out some of the other videos of MT playing this song. Simply beautiful.

Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor

If you liked the way the Rolling Stones sounded back in the late 1960s and early '70s -- darker and bluesier than more recent conjurings -- you have a chance to hear that signature growl once again.
The Stones' 50 & Counting tour, which returns to Southern California for three shows starting Wednesday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, pays tribute to those years with no-nonsense renditions of songs such as “Midnight Rambler,” “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Gimme Shelter.”
It starts with the gear. Guitarist Ron Wood is usually seen with a Fender Stratocaster, but for the concert at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night, he frequently turned to a Gibson Les Paul, with its heavier rock rumble.
Keith Richards still favors his Telecasters, but for key moments -- including his shrieking leads on “Sympathy” -- he switched to a battered Les Paul Jr.
But nothing brings back that classic hard-rock Stones sound like the man who sits in with the band for a song or two: Mick Taylor.
Taylor played lead guitar on what many consider the Stones’ three greatest albums -- “Let it Bleed,” “Exile on Main St.” and “Sticky Fingers” -- before quitting over his perceived lack of songwriting credit.
A virtuoso guitarist, Taylor has the chops to take a song far beyond what’s written down in the lead sheets. It’s hard to imagine “Wild Horses” being quite so poignant without Taylor’s haunting solo. On the Stones' 1970-released live album, “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!,” Taylor's bluesman’s skill at improvisation is on full display, enabling the band to transform “Midnight Rambler” and “Sympathy for the Devil” into tunes quite different than the studio recordings.
Taylor hasn’t stayed lean like his former bandmates, but when he plugged in for "Midnight Rambler" in Las Vegas, it was clear that he still had his touch. You watch him play because you don’t know where he’s going next, but you know it’s going to sound great.
Give credit to Richards, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts and Wood for bringing Taylor back for this tour.  The Stones don’t really need him; they’re a monster touring act that can sell out arenas on their own.
But this particular rock corporation started off as a humble blues band. When Taylor takes the stage, however briefly, we can truly see back 50 years to the band’s roots.

I wouldn't be seeing them four times on this tour if it weren't for Mick Taylor.  His return has generated a great deal of excitement among the diehard fans.  However we are frustrated that he isn't being permitted to play on more songs.

Mick Taylor is the best guitarist the Stones ever had. They need to incorporate him in the concerts and not just a guest spot. The music would be so much better and they could actually justify the expensive tickets by providing Mick Taylor's brillance to the mediocre and predicitable playing by Ron Wood and Keith Richards. They could go out on fire wit him and be "the geatest rock and roll band" if they would wise up and use him.

The Hateful Repubs and Hillary Clinton

The GOP’s Hillary problem

copied from THE HILL...........
By Brent Budowsky - 05/08/13 06:35 PM ET
House Republicans are misusing taxpayer money and abusing House committee rules to promote a partisan vendetta against President Obama and the woman who has earned the stature of being the most admired political leader in America, and a stateswoman who is widely admired around the world: former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Last week I wrote about the GOP’s Obama problem. Today I write about the GOP’s Hillary problem and begin with this: The House leadership and the media should investigate and report whether Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and the majority of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have violated the rules of the House by systematically withholding vital information about Benghazi witnesses and testimony from committee Democrats while selectively leaking information to the press.

Make no mistake, the hearings about the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, are being conducted with one-party rule and the ethical standards of a Soviet Politburo hearing under Leonid Brezhnev, with rampant procedural violations of the rights of committee Democrats.Make no mistake, these hearings are not an impartial attempt to gather the facts. They are a partisan witch hunt against Clinton that embodies everything Americans dislike about politics in Washington and Republicans today.
Former White House Counsel John Dean once told Richard Nixon that there was a cancer on his presidency. Republicans have lost so many recent elections because there is a cancer on their party.
The cancer is that, without ideas and policies that appeal to voters, Republicans are reduced to a politics of obstruction, nihilism and negativity that makes them appear as if they hope America fails, and a politics of personal destruction that is now, through the Benghazi hearings, directed at Clinton.
Republicans today can learn from Nixon’s farewell address, when he warned that those obsessed with destroying their political opponents will only destroy themselves.
Before the bodies were fully laid to rest after the tragedy at Benghazi, the Republican nominee for president, backed by the Republican National Committee chairman, disgracefully said that President Obama was sympathetic to those who killed Americans at Benghazi.
From September 2012 until May 2013, Republicans have shamefully tried, and failed, to exploit the deaths of Americans at Benghazi for partisan gain. Of course, mistakes were made at Benghazi. Clinton long ago accepted her fair share of responsibility, which is one more reason she is held, and will continued to be held, in such high esteem by so many Americans.
When will Chairman Issa and Republicans accept responsibility for their aggressive and unwise attempts to cut embassy security spending before Benghazi?
It is a disgrace for House Republicans to ask taxpayers to subsidize five House committees — paying huge staffs and expenses, working in league with partisan Republican lawyers, withholding information from committee Democrats and leaking partial information to the press — pursuing a partisan vendetta against the former secretary of State, who is the one person who has taken public responsibility and implemented changes to prevent future tragedies.
Clinton has achieved widespread admiration at home and abroad by earning it through hard work, great skill, high standards, vast achievement and good faith as first lady, a United States senator and secretary of State. She has triumphed over a generation of GOP slanders and cheap shots with even more achievement and good humor.
This is the GOP’s Hillary problem. Republicans ignore Nixon’s farewell warning at their peril. Republicans who offer nothing except attempts to destroy opponents they treat as enemies will only destroy their party, as the GOP has destroyed itself in recent elections.
Republicans tried this against President Clinton, who was elected to serve two terms. They tried it against President Obama, who was elected to serve two terms.  The Benghazi attack against Clinton will fail by making Republicans look like party hacks demeaning a world-class stateswoman.
The GOP’s Hillary problem is that over a lifetime of great achievement, she has earned the admiration and trust of the people, while Republicans who smear her have not.

JFK Author Larry Hancock on the Radio This Evening at 6PM Central

New post on Larry Hancock

Lancer Conference plus

by Larry Hancock
As mentioned, I'm afraid I will be blogging only infrequently for a couple of months as we go through the edit process on the new covert warfare book - the publisher would like to have it out in January and that means a lot of work right now. I did want to mention that I will be going on internet radio with Jeff Bushman against this evening, for a full hour.  It will be live at 8 pm Central at
 http://www.GoingBeyondRadio.com.
but its archived for anyone who wants to check in later.  I'll be on for a full hour this evening.  I also wanted to give everyone a bit of an update on the JFK Lancer Conference coming up in November.
The conference will be considerably larger this year, both in terms of length and number of participants -  you can find the details on the JFK Lancer web site - we began receiving requests to participate in the 2013 conference last November and have been working on reviewing proposals and scheduling since the end of last year.  The focus of this conference is on taking a new look at the evidence officially presented against Lee Oswald as the shooter and sole participant in the crime. We have a number of professionals lined up to address the forensics and ballistics evidence, presenting what has been learned including considerable information that was either filtered or simply not presented to the official investigations.  We will also have critiques of each of the official investigations based on what has been revealed by the past 50 years of research, in particular the new information surfaced beginning in the 1990's with a vast amount of oral history work and document releases.
In addition a number of speakers will be offering brand new research, literally never presented previously. If anyone thinks that nothing new exists on the case - well the conference should dispel that notion. We always try to maintain a real balance in the conference participants, covering the range of interests without too much redundancy and also offering the attendees the chance for personal dialogs with authors they have read or specialists the have read about - of course nobody will agree with all the information presented but its good to remember that nobody every learns much new by only talking to people with whom you already agree.
To elaborate on that point, one of the things going on at this years conference will be a number of focus group discussions on a wide variety of topics.  We have recruited researchers specializing in those subjects to moderate the focus groups and Debra Conway has obtained a separate conference room for that.  She has also organized cash breakfast and lunch buffets so that attendees will have to option of eating while listening to and participating in some of the structured discussions.  That is going to be important this year given the crowds expected in Dallas and the lines at restaurants, etc. Beyond that we will be running conference activities from around 8 am in the morning to 9 pm each evening.  If you are coming, rest up in advance as we will be keeping you quite busy.
A final point on Dallas this November, I know some folks are concerned about access to the Plaza. Debra has pursued that issue with the Mayors office for months, starting last year. Although its pretty clear that Dallas still has some work to do and decisions to make about the crowds at its official ceremony, we have been assured that once that is over, the Plaza will be open to the public on November 22.  And of course our normal walking tour of the Plaza area will be a couple of days later on Sunday, so attendees should have no concern about access to the Plaza during their time in Dallas.
