What's Up in Wichita with Abandoned Houses, Lack of Grocery Stores, Health Care and Birth Control.......

Cindy Mann ....here is an inspirational reply to the story first.......

The Obama administration did not declare war on aviation. Maybe someday the republicans will learn to accept

responsibility and stop blaming everyone for the messes they make. And for the past six years the only person that has

been working is President Obama. Meanwhile the republican controlled congress has turned every breath he takes into a

scandal. And, offered nothing....except hate for the federal government...and hate for our first african american

president. The republican congress is possibly the worst in history. You can't blame the problems in Ks aviation on

President Obama. Where you find a red state, you usually find a failed state.

......exactly.....you've got Mike Pompeo saying he is against the ACA to save jobs....that is an out and out lie.  I would like him to answer for that statement.

Also you've got the council recently voting against birth control.....what is going on?

In the lower income area there are not even grocery stores in walking distance.  How will someone get food if they do not have a car.

Some of these things can easily be improved......health care for everyone with easy access to birth control, grocery stores with easy access in the low income areas and stop spreading the lies about President  Obama--he is doing a fabulous job.  He has given us healthcare and stood up for women.

There is nothing to be gained by the crazy conservatism here....one person stopped being friends with me because I supported President Obama.

Seriously, the person was misinformed by his church, of all things--and wasn't even having it when it came to a political discussion.

Stop the lies--get the groceries and get on with it--Wichita is basically a very nice place.

Wichita real estate officials view latest ranking of ‘abandoned’ homes with skepticism

Wichita has the distinction of having the highest percentage of vacant foreclosed houses in the nation, according to a report from an online company, but area real estate officials said Monday that the numbers don’t say much – if anything – about the state of the area’s housing market.
Wall Street 24/7, an Internet-based financial news and opinion service, said based on its analysis of data of 100 metropolitan areas, Wichita had the highest percentage — 49 percent — of foreclosed homes that were vacant. It said of 301 properties in foreclosure in the second quarter of 2014, 146 were vacant. The data studied came from the real estate company RealtyTrac.
“Honestly I don’t think it means very much,” said Stan Longhofer, director of the Center for Real Estate at Wichita State University. “Percentages are always misleading when you deal with that low of a base.”
For example, Longhofer added, “If we had two houses in foreclosure in Sedgwick County and all of a sudden, next year we had four, that would be a 100 percent increase.”
Some publications, such as USA Today, have picked up the report, calling the vacant homes in foreclosure, “abandoned.”
Greg Fox, president of the South Central Kansas Multiple Listing Service and owner of real estate brokerage Realty World Alliance, said, “We don’t have very many foreclosures going on if we’ve got 300.”
According to RealtyTrac‘s website, as of May one in every 4,697 houses in Sedgwick County was in foreclosure. That compares with one in every 2,861 houses in foreclosure in Kansas, and one in every 1,199 houses in foreclosure in the U.S., according to RealtyTrac.
Longhofer said once a house goes into foreclosure, it doesn’t mean the house is immediately vacated by the home owner. The foreclosure process takes months, and it’s generally not until much later in the process — after the lender has filed a court action to foreclose — that the owner is evicted.
“I think given the numbers we’re dealing with here, they were previously renter occupied or purchased for that reason, or it (the vacant house) was in a situation where the previous owner moved out ... (and the house is) not inhabitable,” he said.

Mike Pompeo is running for congress in Kansas.

He has an add running on television talking about how he is for keeping and creating jobs in Kansas.

He proudly announces he has voted against Obama Care over 50 times in order to keep jobs in Kansas.

Tell me, Mike Pompeo, exactly how will the ACA take away jobs in Kansas.

Please tell me your idea for providing health care for everyone in Kansas.

Mike, please tell me your idea for health care for all of the citizens of the United States that is better than the ACA.

Just asking, Mike, and I am eagerly awaiting your response.

Mike, go ahead, and tell Ronnie your ideas for Health Care in Kansas

from the Huff Post: Words of Wisdom from Rev. Al Sharpton about Obama Care

Hating Obama Is Not A Health Care Plan

OBAMACARE UNINSURED

If there's one thing I've learned in my time on this earth, it's that people love to talk a good game. Instead of actually taking action or concrete steps to create change, they just talk a lot -- endlessly. A prime example is the relentless attacks against health care reform. Despite the fact that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the law of the land and has even been backed by the Supreme Court, Republicans have attempted to repeal it dozens of times, and they continuously ridicule the plan till this day. But guess what? They have yet to offer an alternative. Instead of attacking a plan that over six million people have signed up for (and counting), why don't they offer some ideas of their own? Here's a thought: they don't have any.
This fall, people will head to the voting booth once again for the midterm elections. It's important for everyone to participate and be involved in the process just as much as they were during the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. You can bet the right-wing will run against the Affordable Care Act -- or as they like to refer to it 'Obamacare'. And I hope they do. Because they will be running against children staying on their parents' insurance until the age of 26. They will be running against people who can no longer be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. They will be running against millions of Americans who finally have the security of knowing that they have health coverage should they need it. I would love to see them run against this reform, and I look forward to everyone's testimonials about how 'Obamacare' has improved their lives. That's what we need to do; together, we must remind everyone of the benefits of this unprecedented legislation.
As for Democrats, they shouldn't run from the president or from the ACA; they should embrace it. Why should they run from an actual solution to a very real problem that has plagued countless Americans? Obtaining affordable health insurance has been a challenge for parents, families and individuals alike. So many Americans have been forced into bankruptcy because of outrageous health care costs, and many others have fallen severely ill or even died because they did not receive the care they needed in time. Many attempted to resolve this crisis in the past, and so many have tried and failed at achieving health care reform. President Obama was actually able to deliver on his promise, and we should be proud to support such progress. It wasn't an easy road to get here by any means, but now that we are here and now that people's lives are literally transforming for the better, we must stand tall for we are on the correct side of history.
Lately, we've been hearing a lot from folks like Ben Carson who want to scream up and down against the pitfalls of 'Obamacare'. But he, like all the other naysayers, have nothing to offer except noise. Where is Carson's plan? Where is the GOP plan? Their deceit and games may work for a bit, but when millions have signed up, and people will start to see the actual results of health care reform soon enough, nobody can hide from the truth -- nobody. Democrats need to realize that this is a law already benefiting real people, and that they were the only ones that came with a plan, plain and simple.
To all those that boldly proclaim 'Obamacare' is some sort of evil which must be eliminated, they need to put up or shut up. In other words, they can offer an alternative that can match the benefits of the ACA, or stay out of the way. As I write this, Americans are eagerly signing up for the program. They are obtaining more information, comparing plans and figuring out what works best for themselves and their families. With all of the glitches that Healthcare.gov experienced in the beginning, it is fully functioning now and Americans know it -- that's why they are visiting the site in droves. So instead of criticizing and trying to repeal something that isn't going away, perhaps Republicans need to just get on board for the benefit of this country's citizens.
And maybe, just maybe, they will realize that hating the President isn't a viable health care plan.

what's up with the Dollar Stores in Wichita?

Walked in...where are the readers.... right over there......

Seriously, right out of San Diego where the "Dollar" stores are actually a dollar......

Searching for a new pair of readers I strolled down 13th Street where two different brands of dollars stores were seen from my descent off the freeway.

In shock the signs read six, eight and ten dollars.

I was informed by the clerk, who had also offered the previous customer tips on child rearing, .......we have quality brands, such a s Foster Grant, that's why they are more than a dollar.

Really, because all of the dollar stores in San Diego have items for a dollar unless they are a "99 cent" store then the items are 0.99 cents.

All of those very same glasses in San Diego dollar stores are actually one dollar....everything in the store is one dollar......yes, even the Foster Grants.

A nice man walking by me to the next dollar store said maybe the "Dollar Tree" has items for only one dollar.

What's going on here because I was told the Dollar Tree was not actually even near this part of town.  It seemed like I was not in the high dollar neighborhood......wouldn't it be more practical to have the lower priced store in the areas that needed it the most.

To me, it seems like the owners of these stores may be taking advantage.........what do you think.

What is  your take on this outrageous dollar store situation in the fine city of Wichita, Kansas?

Love to hear from you and all comments, agree or disagree are appreciated.

And, for goodness sake, why are they calling it a dollar store?

In San Diego this would be a cause for a public outcry--to list a business as a dollar store and have items in there for more than a dollar--it would be an outrage and it certainly would be on the news.
