Butterick Patterns by Gerite B6354 – Wanda Woodward Wearable Toile

By The Crafty Pinup on Aug 05, 2016 08:49 am
Hi everyone!
This post is a little different from my usual for quite a few reasons! To start, it’s my first ‘pattern hack’ post, my first fitted make and my first wearable toile! Also this post will lead on to another post with the final make and full instructions on my pattern hack. That’s why this one will be a little shorter than normal as it’s more of an introduction to the main dress – if that makes any sense…
Check out my wearable toile:

Thank you!

Purple Tiki Ensemble

By Brooke on Aug 04, 2016 03:15 pm
Hello Everyone! It has been quite a while since I last posted on this site. I really enjoyed how my birthday outfit this year turned out. I have always wanted to make a 1950’s tiki ensemble and I finally accomplished it!
SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI used Gertie’s new tiki inspired pattern 6354 from Butterick for the skirt and the bolero. I knew I didn’t have enough fabric to make the bustier from this pattern, so I turned to Simplicity 1426 to make the top. This outfit was a breeze to make and looks fantastic.

Lemon Shelf Bust Dress

By sewnbyashley on Aug 03, 2016 04:42 pm
I wish I'd noticed that giant string!
I wish I’d noticed that giant string!
I love shelf bust dresses, but they’ve been an irritation for me. Every pattern I’ve found cuts across the bust, not under, and the RTW dresses are way out of my budget. Enter lekala 4519. This pattern actually sits underneath bust, gives you more fullness and umph. Perfect, right?!?
Bust boost!
Bust boost!
I’d never worked with a Lekala pattern before, and I have to say, it was a very interesting experience. You enter your measurements, and their software creates a custom pattern for you, to your measurements. Or so it says. I didn’t find it to be quite so easy, as you can see by the short skirt length! Full review and pattern problems can be found on my blog, Sewn by Ashley

Vintage Pattern Review: Simplicity 8183

By tamekamatae on Jul 30, 2016 07:55 pm
I bought this SUPER cute 1960’s backless dress pattern on Etsy a few months ago. I already had the PERFECT fabric to make it with, a blue cotton floral with a it of stretch. It almost has a Hawaiian feel to it, doesn’t it?
This pattern definitely satisfied my sewing fix as it was very fast and easy to sew. I made no changes to the pattern (save the measurements…a size 10? I wish!), and I used two vintage pearly flat fisheye buttons at the back.
I really like this design because of the peek-a-boo back. It’s low, but not TOO low, so it’s perfect for concealing my “love handles”. I think it turned out great!
Thanks for looking!

LARRY HIMMEL NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDATION SEEKING
SAN DIEGANS IN NEED

FOUNDATION CONTINUES BROADCASTER’S LEGACY OF GOODWILL IN THE COMMUNITY

San Diego, CA – July 29, 2016

Established in honor of one of San Diego’s most well-known and well-loved
media personalities, the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation is now
reaching out to the community to find neighbors in need of financial support.
The Foundation was created to honor Larry’s memory by helping people
throughout San Diego County, who Himmel connected with during a long
radio and television career.
The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation is a recognized 501 ( c ) ( 3 )
non-profit organization, which will support a variety of groups and individuals
in need of assistance.  Whether providing for children dealing with illness or
injury, families touched by crime or natural disaster, youth programs in
need of resources, or San Diego’s military community, the Foundation aims
to touch as many neighborhoods as possible.  Larry described his mission
as a storyteller and broadcaster as “to make people feel better about the
place they call home”.  The Foundation is currently asking for the assistance
of the community to find potential beneficiaries.  If you know of a neighbor
in need, you’re encouraged to contact the organization through their website,
www.larryhimmelfoundation.org.

Larry’s media career in San Diego spanned parts of five decades, working
at local radio stations including KGB, KIFM and KFMB-FM.  He moved on to
television in the late 1970s, and became a fixture on KFMB-TV until shortly
before the time of his passing in November, 2014.  Himmel’s features
reflected his comic style, warm personality, and his love of people with
unique and engaging stories.  “Larry was so much more than a guy on
TV, he was everyone’s good neighbor,” said Dave Sniff, Chairman of the
Foundation, KFMB Radio program director, and Larry’s longtime friend
and colleague.  “He helped his neighbors feel better through the
stories he told about the community he loved.  The Larry Himmel
Neighborhood Foundation extends that unique connection to enable
neighbors to help neighbors.”

Larry’s son, Miles, serves on the Foundation’s board and also works at
KFMB Radio.  “I’m so excited about continuing my dad’s legacy here
in the community he loved,” Himmel said.  “When my dad was in his
hospital bed, he said to a close friend, ‘There’s so much I’m going to
miss.’  We are doing this for Larry so that he knows his memory lives on.”

In addition to worthy beneficiaries, the Foundation is also currently
looking for sponsor partners and donations so it can carry out its mission:
“to provide support and resources to deserving organizations and
individuals in the spirit of Larry’s connection with the communities
and people of San Diego County.”  Donations may be tax deductible.
Contact your tax planning professional for details.

Visit www.larryhimmelfoundation.org to learn more.
For opportunities to promote the Foundation and its
objectives through media exposure, please contact Roy
Robertson, Secretary of the Foundation, at 619 823 9401.

Fizz Apparel: Buy a Shirt-A Child Gets a Book

Our Impact

FOR EVERY ITEM YOU PURCHASE, I BUY A SCHOOL BOOK FOR A CHILD IN NEED.

Our aim is to provide solutions to resource-starved communities around the world. Our partner, Shidhulaioperates a fleet of 54 solar-powered boats that serve as fully-operational schools for remote communities that are ravaged by extreme climate conditions.
To some, climate change is a topic of debate. Whatever your political beliefs may be, tens of millions of Bengali families are facing the harsh realities of an ever changing world. Bangladesh is ground zero for climate change, and adapting to extreme weather conditions is the only hope for the survival of these communities.
In a perfect world, education would be accessible to all. In Bangladesh however, access to comprehensive schooling may be limited or non-existent. Educating our children in some of the world’s darkest corners will be the catalyst for true global development.
We believe women’s rights begin with investing in young girls. We want to help build a foundation where young women can emerge as strong leaders and innovators. Our efforts will directly impact young girls seeking an education in Bangladesh.

IT'S SIMPLE.

I MAKE A SHIRT.

YOU LOOK GREAT IN IT.

A CHILD GETS A BOOK.

GIVE ME A BOOK. GIVE ME A FUTURE.
