City Life Cafe Downtown Wichita......It's a Good Thing

Good food at reasonable prices in Downtown Wichita.

Have to say it........

The City Life Cafe in Downtown Wichita......not only to they have good food for a very reasonable price but their hospitality is the bomb.

Yes, they were very nice to me........walking around in the cold weather waiting for my tires to be replaced at my beloved Firestone on Main St........just dying for a nice hot cup of coffee--but who will let me in.

Yes, it was not just me but also my trusty companion, Ronnie--the red-brindle pit bull mix.

Maybe just ask...could we come in for a cup of coffee......as they had just opened and very few people were in there the proprietor said yes....no, we sat at the edge not to have the doggie in question sprawled out in the middle of the dining room floor.

Recommending the cheese quesidilla with sour cream and salsa--cooked to perfection with tater tots to die for served perfectly by Tyler--friendly yet not overbearing with the knack of always being there just at the right time.

Good service and good food, and possibly the best cup of coffee ever with cream and sugar expertly prepared by Zee.

These young men made me and Ronnie feel so welcome on a cold day....and the coffee came in at the very reasonable price of 1.29.

Thanks City Life Cafe, Zee and Tyler, in the Petroleum building in Downtown Wichita for welcoming us with that lovely cup of coffee and friendly hospitality.

We really appreciated your cafe.....can't wait to go there again.

Well done.

Lynda Martin

What is your background? I was born in London and grew up in the U.S. While I was a student at New House School of Communication at Syracuse University, I received a phone call from my mother informing me our money was gone (that’s another story) and I would have to drop out of school. I was not willing to quit, so I had to find a way. I got three jobs, made copies from books I borrowed, and was homeless. I chose to make it and not fail.
What did you do after college? I wanted to be a network star, so I set out to find a job with a TV station. I was in Worcester, Mass., at the time. No one would hire me after struggling to put myself through college. I was 22, and I walked into a station wearing a red power suit and my hair up in a bun and said I would work for free. They let me work, and eventually I got paid a bit and then got the midnight to 6 a.m. DJ position. Then I got to try out for a TV station working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the same time working my midnight job. That lasted for about three weeks until I got hired at the station, and shortly thereafter the anchor job opened and I was able to move into that position.
Was that a good move for you? It was at the time, but then I lost the job and was replaced by a man. So I went to another station, where I was hired immediately and never missed a paycheck.
How did you get to San Diego? In 1999 I came here to start Fox, which at the time was Fox 6 XETV. I have been a TV news anchor/reporter for 13 years and have five Emmy nominations. Three years later I moved on to anchor KSWB five nights a week, until 2005 when that news department shut down. I am still a vacation relief anchor at Fox 6 in addition to my morning anchor job.
Where did you get your drive and determination? I had a fourth-grade teacher who convinced me that I was bright and could do anything I set out to do.
How have others benefited from your leadership? By sharing with others I come in contact with at radio/TV/speaking engagements. I find that my story is an inspiration to others and they learn from my struggles.
How do you give back? I have a brother with autism, so I am very committed to Special Olympics and also to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I have run two marathons and am now a long-distance runner and just did the Low Tide Ride & Stride to benefit Wounded Warriors.
Whom do you most admire? I once interviewed a Holocaust survivor from La Mesa by the name of Eve Gerstle. She is now 98 years old, and I was so impressed with her that I still visit her about once a month. I won my fifth Emmy nomination for that story.
What are your goals for the future? Take my skills to inform and educate others. I have a strong commitment to raising my two sons.
What is your advice to others? Never forget where you come from. You don’t know what is next.

Love Yahoo, Love Google Chrome--Yummy Food on the Yahoo Homepage

Marissa Mayer
Marissa Mayer--has good recipes
Just tried the new Yahoo app for Google Chrome....Love it!

It gives me the Yahoo home page on a new tab.

Now, I love Google and use it on my Chromebook several times a day--every day--all day.

But, I also like the Yahoo Newspaper---read it every day for  current news and trending news, can easily see the weather.....it's pretty.

I like the set-up of the Yahoo Newspaper and it is easy to use.....but what is really beautiful are all of those recipes.

It seems like Marissa Mayer really hit the nail on the head with this little newspaper and the food page.

The foods pictured have useful recipes, easy and difficult, good nutrition and calorie info......it's fun to visualize.

Also, reading Google News everyday, too, and of course, G-mail is the bomb.

Tech girl and blogger.......love it.....the ronnie republic.

Getting the Shirt Sleeve Just Right by Chloe Louise

English: Basic pattern of a polo shirt, henley shirt and t-shirt (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
love this post....I keep trying to perfect my shirts.  I finally got one just right and it does have a very high underarm seam and the sleeves fit correctly to the bodice to allow easy movement yet it is not too loose.....I worked so hard to achieve this and it is actually very comfortable.  A well fitted 100% cotton shirt of a finer fabric---this was about 8 dollars a yard but it is a very nice cotton shirting fabric and more and more difficult to find---it is actually more comfortable and cooler than a tee-shirt or knit shirt or a man-made blend.  I also try to make it from the center out because if you think about it, unless you have unusually shaped shoulders or neck and the front is straight the only place you are going to get fabric is from the sides if you do not have a princess seam.  I try to get the armhole high and correct as to move my arm forward without pinching and then just keep bringing in fabric from the side as needed......in fact, it is not necessary to finish the side seams (flat fell, or whatever) until it has been washed a few times.  Then the front will hang straight and not gap open and and necessary adjustment can come from the sides....actually I just read this in a shirt book and I think it was from Threads.  Well, just saying this technique has worked well for me but it has taken some time......what do you think......cl

Kevin Finnerty Talks 'The November Man' and My Favorite Spy Pierce Brosnan

Movie Review: ‘The November Man’ Starring Pierce Brosnan

The November Man Movie Review

“He’s probably the best friend I’ve ever had,” says Devereaux (Pierce Brosnan). “All your friends try to kill you?” asks Alice (Olga Kurylenko). “Eventually,” replies Devereaux who’s being hunted by a CIA assassin he trained before retiring from the spy game in the dramatic action film, The November Man.
Ex-CIA operative Peter Devereaux has been enjoying a quiet, peaceful life in Switzerland when an old colleague, Hanley (Bill Smitrovich), reaches out for his help on one last mission. A mutual friend of theirs, Natalia (Mediha Musliovic), needs to come in from the field and has become so paranoid she’ll only trust Devereaux to bring her in. Still having a soft spot for Natalia who he had more than just a “working” relationship with, Peter agrees to help.
Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned and Natalia’s cover is blown during her attempted extraction. She gives Devereaux the name of an important witness who needs protection: Alice Fournier (Olga Kurylenko). Not long after finding Alice, Devereaux discovers that they’ve both been marked for death by the CIA due to information Alice has involving the CIA and the Chechen War. If that wasn’t bad enough, to make matters worse Devereaux’s old protégé, David Mason (Luke Bracey), is leading the hunt.
With both CIA and Chechen assassins hunting them and growing suspicions that there is a mole in the agency, Devereaux finds himself on the run with no one to trust and a slim chance of survival.
Gritty and suspenseful, The November Man brings ex-007 Pierce Brosnan back to the big screen in a darker, more serious spy thriller. Brosnan is perfect as Devereaux, the retired master spy who reluctantly gets pulled back into the world of espionage and soon realizes that even he is in way over his head.

Devereaux is a colder, older, and highly experienced spy who knows how to survive in the Cold War. Finally, Brosnan is given the opportunity in November Man that he didn’t have in the Bond series: to portray a seasoned, refined, and extremely lethal secret agent straight, without the tongue-in-cheek dialogue. And he does it wonderfully.
Also a Bond franchise veteran (although from a different era than Brosnan), Olga Kurylenko is extremely effective in the role of Alice. Kurylenko portrays her as both an overwhelmed, terrified and mistrusting target and at times a sexy, willful and determined woman. Kurylenko and Pierce have solid chemistry which comes across strong in the few quiet moments they have together on screen in between the fighting and chasing scenes.
The action scenes are thrilling, with car chases, multiple shoot-outs and a few cat and mouse on foot chases. The scene where Bracey as Mason is hunting Devereaux through the streets of Belgrade while talking to him on a cell phone is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, with Devereaux taunting Mason with lines such as, “So kid, tell me about your target.”
The November Man‘s realistic dialogue and strong cloak-and-dagger tone is due to the terrific direction by Roger Donaldson working from a script by Michael Finch and Karl Gajdusekvc. The cinematography and production of the film looks stunning, and benefits from being shot on location in Belgrade and Montenegro. Perhaps the only drawback to the film is the slowing of the pace at the midpoint in The November Man, but that picks back up as it heads toward a suspenseful finale.
Gripping and action-packed, The November Man is a first-rate spy thriller that’s sure to entertain Pierce Brosnan and espionage movie fans.
GRADE: B
The November Man is rated R for strong violence including a sexual assault, language, sexuality/nudity and brief drug use.
