Bill O'Reilly: Meeting Chris Christie in the Middle

The ego wars rage on.

Here's the thing--we can't count out Bill O'Reilly.

Sure I love to bash him almost on a daily basis but "the voters" out there, and I think there are a lot of them, love him. He's big, real big in the ratings and even though we now have President Obama, Mr. O'Reilly and his followers are not going away any time soon.

I think he is changing ever so slightly to meet the giant force on the political scene, Chris Christie, somewhere in the middle.

As we noticed his suggestion that the views of Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame were indeed to harsh in their judgement of our gay community. Not to mention on a more practical matter that kind of talk will get you fired at work.

Bill reminded us that Jesus asked us not to judge.

Bill may want to ensure the popularity of his show and the Republican Party unlike other members of the walking dead branch of the repubs who make statements to attract attention to themselves at the expense of the GOP.

Perhaps Mr. O'Reilly has foresight the average citizen does not have as he runs around the country on his "Bolder and Fresher" tour meeting with the folks. That may be the folks paying 500 dollars a ticket for the meet and greet portion of the gig. Perhaps these folks and big money backers are providing him with an insight into our next big election.

Mr. O is moving in that direction.

Anthony Weiner Hints of Another Comeback Attempt

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner posted a thank you message to supporters on Facebook this afternoon that leaves the door open–ever so slightly–to another comeback run.
“What’s next? I’ll keep you posted on my plans. But I hope we keep the band together,” he wrote in the message to supporters posted onhis Facebook page.
“(Who knows, maybe I have a third book of ideas in me!)” he added.
Mr. Weiner, who lost his race for mayor this summer following revelations that he’d continued sexting with women long after he resigned from Congress, has kept largely out of the spotlight since his loss.
In the message, titled “What’s Next? First, Let Me Say Thanks,” Mr. Weiner reflects on the year that was.
“I do want to take stock a bit of 2013. It certainly didn’t go as I had hoped,” he wrote. “I continue to be deeply sorry that my personal mistakes undermined an amazing campaign that included too many amazing staffers to mention and hundreds of volunteers and many of you who kept active from afar with ideas, contributions and encouraging notes.”
He also encouraged his supporters to keep up the fight for immigration reform and universal health care–and to avoid the urge to move to the center.
“[W]e all have sought to make the argument that too often we progressives come to knife fights carrying library books. Although my Republican friends have to decide what to do with the tea party wackadoo wing of their party, it does not constitute a strategy to simply sit back and watch them immolate. Our team has to be a font of ideas and debate …” he wrote, urging readers to “remember the admonition of Jim Hightower, who frequently said, ‘there’s nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos.’”
Here is the letter, in full:
What’s Next? First, Let Me Say Thanks
There is a fundamental optimism that is wired into the DNA of America and its true capital – New York City. We are a place that people come to improve their condition. And once here we are unified by a common aspiration – to leave our kids a place better than the one we found. In the ideological battleground that seeks to define what it is to be American, perhaps we can lay down arms and say that our most shared quality is optimism. After all, nobody picks up their lives and crosses the sea unless they are hopeful about the future. Nearly all of our families did that.
So in spite of the challenges that we face in our families and in our communities, I look forward to a better 2014.
I do want to take stock a bit of 2013. It certainly didn’t go as I had hoped. I continue to be deeply sorry that my personal mistakes undermined an amazing campaign that included too many amazing staffers to mention and hundreds of volunteers and many of you who kept active from afar with ideas, contributions and encouraging notes. (Even the snarky comments of our opponents weren’t entirely humorless). Huma and I were buoyed by the kind wishes of countless friends and total strangers. And I must admit, it’s easy to get cheered up when you are watching a little boy sprout before your eyes. Did I mention Jordan turned 2 this week?
What’s next? I’ll keep you posted on my plans. But I hope we keep the band together. You have been an amazing resource and the network we have all become part of has helped lead the debate on national health care, the need for a smarter and more compassionate approach to the growing pockets of need in our nation, and we all have sought to make the argument that too often we progressives come to knife fights carrying library books. Although my Republican friends have to decide what to do with the tea party wackadoo wing of their party, it does not constitute a strategy to simply sit back and watch them immolate. Our team has to be a font of ideas and debate. I tried to run my campaign on this theme and the response was amazing. (Who knows, maybe I have a third book of ideas in me!)
As we support Mayor de Blasio in New York and push the seemingly immovable Congress on issues like immigration reform, aid to the hungry and our aspiration for universal health care that makes things better for America’s children, not just America’s health insurance companies, let’s remember the admonition of Jim Hightower, who frequently said, “there’s nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos”. This year lets fight to make this the country we want it to be and one that lives up to our common ideals about progress.
I pray for a sweet, healthy and productive year for you. And thank you for your kindness in the year past.
–Anthony

Wish Anthony the best--he represents the needs of the average citizen very well. His views and fight for health care and immigraion are admirable. Love Huma, too. We all have flaws, he has that certain something of successful politicians--to keep changing for the better and keep moving forward.

Coulter Says Santa is Still White; Her Racism Continues

Yesterday, Coulter tweeted that Santa is still white, posting a photo as proof. In the past, she has extolled white supremacy, and she continues to do so – with a fictional character. Coulter’s racism is well documented (see chapter four of Vanity: Ann Coulter’s Quest for Glory and chapter ten of The Gospel According to Ann Coulter).

Even though Coulter’s last book, Mugged, dealt brilliantly with race – detailing the Party of Lincoln’s history of promoting freedom for all – Coulter, time and time again, views life through the prisms of race and class. Coulter takes pride in being white and in being an elite.

Conservatives, on the other hand, agree with the Declaration of Independence, that all men are created equal. We believe in equality before God. We believe in liberty and justice for all. We uphold Rev. King’s pronouncement that character, not race, is what matters. We eschew racial quotas and race-norming as ineffective societal correctives because they actually deny the inherent, God-given equality of mankind, which was created in God’s image. We seebeyond race because it is truly the person within that matters.

For all her research into race relations, Coulter misses the heart of the matter because, in her heart, she can’t help but make race and class distinctions. It is a part of who she is.

Color Wheel Skirt: I Want This Right Now

Colorwheel Skirt

Posted:Sun, 22 Dec 2013 23:36:26 +0000
I haven’t posted in a bit because well…. after a really busy sewing-summer I have been taking a short break!
I’m a huge fan of the 60s/70s and that’s mostly the type of retro I sew, so while trying to do some stash-busting, I came up with the idea of an 8-panel circle skirt in -you guessed it- rainbow colors! I had all this fabric in my stash already, just waiting to be made into something.
This was a really easy pattern to make and sew, but I did have to fuss with the circular hem for a bit longer than I wanted to. The top is from a thrift store which I edited for my size. I couldn’t pass up a print like that!

I don’t want to hog up a lot of room on here with my post, but you can always head on over to my blog to see more of the skirt!
Thanks!

Leo La Porte Tech Hero

LA Southwest College--Assistant football coach and vidiographer--was the recipient of Leo la Porte's secret Santa today.

He sent him a new I-Pad.

The Coach and caller said he was not able to watch Direct TV because at this time his 3 year old I pad that worked just fine was no longer available to interact with Direct TV.

In short, he was out--he needed an upgrade or no TV.

This very nice man and fan of Leo was sad indeed, as he was on a budget and fixed income and he just could not afford a new Apple I Pad at this time.

He was also a little out of sorts about the whole thing because his phone worked fine and he loved it.  He said he loved the Apple product and he wanted to stay with it forever.

Leo La Porte said he loved these Apple products, too, but this is one issue he has with the company--the company is essentially forcing the consumer to buy a new phone when the 3 year old one worked fine and the gentleman was on a strict budget.

Al, the caller was so grateful as his brother, the coach had bought his products up until now.

The joy in Al's voice was so fun to hear and in the Christmas Spirit.

It made my day..

Good job, Leo, you are a good person.

Merry Christmas to Leo and Al and thank you for sending the listeners joy and merry Christmas today.

The Changing of Bill O'Reilly

Is Bill O'Reilly changing in order to survive the Reublican Party as Chris Christie swoops in for a grand slam.  Is Bill afraid he will be left out of the new republican party like walking dead queen Ann Coulter and other members of the mean spirited Christians, Ted, Rush, Sean--the mad men of the GOP.

So many of these gay men, my co-workers at every level--so often bailed me out at work.  No, not just once but many many times. Offering kind words of advice, as needed.

So often these lovely men carried on a conversation with me when others would not.

To me, Jesus does not want to go around hurting other people's feelings.

What do you think Ann.

Members and guests of the Gold Coast Tiger Bay Club were held spellbound by former Nixon and Reagan political consultant Roger Stone, speaking on his book, “JFK, the case against LBJ”, essentially putting the blame on and providing proof the President Johnson, not only orchestrated the assassination, but had his hand in many other nefarious deeds.

The Gold Coast Tiger Bay Club is modeled after the famous National Press Club in Washington DC. The Gold Coast Tiger Bay Club provides a forum of public discourse and debate on politics, people and issues affecting our lives, our community, and our world.

The Gold Coast Tiger Bay Club is a non – partisan organization, and does not support political candidates, campaigns, nor take sides on political issues. While much of the world follows political issues and form their opinions through the news media, members of the Gold Coast Tiger Bay Club receive information straight from the “Tiger’s mouth.”

Art Bell Tells George Knapp About His New Show

CBOE's Michelle Kaufman Talks: What Actually is an Index Option

Ask the Options Institute

Question:
Why do they call an index option an index option?
Answer:
There are two general types of options that are traded at securities exchanges in the United States. The first and oldest type of option is the stock option, introduced by The Chicago Board Options Exchange in 1973. The CBOE then introduced a second type of option ten years later, the index option.

These options have different names because they have different contract specifications. Such as underlying, delivery and exercise, last trading day and settlement price. The first major difference is the underlying. Stock options have shares of a specific stock such as Google or Ford for an underlying. An index option, however, has an underlying of a market index (hence the name "index" options) of many stocks such as the S&P 500 Stock Index or the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Another key difference is what is delivered when an option is exercised. For a stock option, 100 shares of the specific stock are delivered. For an index option, the in-the-money cash value of the option is delivered.

To learn more about index options, please view this week's "Ask the Institute."

George Strombo--What a Loss for CNN

from The Province

George Stroumboulopoulos has soft spot for B.C.

Photograph by: Jason Payne , PROVINCE

Though he definitely identifies with his Ontario roots, George Stroumboulopoulos says it’s important to him to get out west a few times every year.
“It’s funny, because I’m a Toronto boy in all the senses of the word. But Vancouver, and the Pacific Northwest, there’s been a vibe here that I’ve really identified with,” he said. “I like the way people connect to each other here. It’s just more chill. It’s definitely more laid back.”
Stroumboulopoulos was in town this month to help out with CBC’s annual Open House and Food Bank Day, where he was frequently stopped in his tracks by admiring fans who waned to say ‘hello’ to George. He invariably stopped, engaged them, asked them their names.
He’s had a soft spot for B.C., he said, going back to his early days in broadcasting.
Fresh out of school in Toronto, Strombo moved west to take his first radio job at a rock station in Kelowna, 104.7 FM The Lizard, where he hosted a metal show called High Voltage.
Stroumboulopoulos expressed his admiration for Vancouver’s restaurants (especially veggie spots like The Naam and The Foundation), local music (especially punk bands like DOA and SNFU), and B.C.’s public broadcaster, the Knowledge Network).
The 41-year-old broadcaster also made a recent trip to B.C. to work on an upcoming project with another famous local, Michael Bublé.
The Burnaby-bred crooner has appeared several times on Stroumboulopoulos’ show over the years, and the two have hit it off, Stroumboulopoulos said. They’ve watched and talked hockey together — Strombo’s a massive Habs fan, while Bublé's a lifelong Canucks backer.
During the 2010 Olympics, Stroumboulopoulos said Bublé even let him crash at his place while he was in Vancouver.
“I had no real plans on coming here, then I bumped into him and he was like, ‘Go stay at my place,’ ” he said. “(Bublé) just left the keys at the front, and . . . let me crash.”

Ann Coulter, Jesus Christ, and Santa Claus

If Ann Coulter can’t be trusted (see Never Trust Ann Coulter – at ANY Age), why do so many conservatives trust her? Sometimes she gets things right and stands her ground for truth. (Complications arise, however, when she as equally fervently expresses falsehood.)

Entering into an already ongoing racial debate sparked by Fox News commentators and Coulter’s own tweets, Piers Morgan recently posed a series of questions to Coulter regarding the race of both Jesus and Santa.

Regarding the Savior, Coulter was accurate: “As for Jesus, Jesus is a real person. He was a Jew. I mean, if you want to tell me Jews aren't white, OK. But he's Jewish. So, whatever that is.” Repeatedly pressed by a contentious Piers who could not accept that reality, Coulter amplified her remarks: “Well, he's not black, he's Middle Eastern. Maybe he's sort of beige, Piers.” For the record, Jesus was biblically and historically Jewish and, thus, light-complexioned.

Coulter’s views on Santa are a bit more problematic. “But I met the real Santa Clause and he is white.” Santa Claus is a fictional character inspired by an historical figure, a 4th-century Greek Christian bishop. Our contemporary picture of Santa Claus derives from an 1881 illustration which was created in a dominant white milieu.

Of course Santa Claus in America was white – in 1881. But Santa is a fictional figure and his race has no bearing on who he is and what he does. Santa transcends race. (Just as Jesus does.) Every individual and culture can envision Santa as they choose. Christmas is celebrated worldwide by a variety of different customs, in diverse cultures, with different representations of Santa.

Coulter, Piers, and others who emphasize the race of Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are entirely missing the point because they are focusing on something relatively inconsequential – race. They miss the point of Christmas – the universal love of God and Jesus Christ’s birth as Savior of the world.

It’s not about race, it’s about God’s gift to mankind.

More News About Lucy and Lucie from the Lowell Sun

Daily Dish: 12/19/2013

The Lowell Sun
UPDATED:   12/19/2013 06:28:51 AM EST

Lucie Arnaz recalls Christmas with Lucy, Desi
Lucille Ball's classic antics are colorized in an "I Love Lucy" holiday special airing on CBS. But daughter Lucie Arnaz's vivid family Christmas memories don't require any embellishment to shine.
Arnaz says her parents, Ball and Desi Arnaz, made the most of the holiday at their Beverly Hills home in the 1950s. Arnaz and her brother, Desi Arnaz Jr., reveled in it.
Her Cuban-born dad added a memorable touch one particular Christmas Eve. Young Lucie awoke to the sound of clattering on the roof, followed by a man in a red suit bringing gifts into her room.
As Arnaz recalls: "He bent over and kissed me and said" -- here she adapts a Cuban accent -- "'Merry Christmas!' I thought, 'Santa sounds just like daddy."'
She fondly recalls watching her parents on the set of "I Love Lucy," and hopes the "I Love Lucy Christmas Special" (8 p.m. Friday, CBS) will introduce the sitcom to a new generation of viewers.
The hour-long program includes colorized versions of a Christmas special and one in which Lucy memorably stomps grapes for wine in Italy. A newly released DVD includes those and a third episode, "Lucy Goes to Scotland."
Tyler Perry says Fincher is 'amazing' director
Tyler Perry writes, directs, stars in and produces his own movies and TV shows, so he doesn't have much time for outside projects. One he's glad he made work is a role in director David Fincher's upcoming film, "Gone Girl."
Based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, "Gone Girl" is the story of a man who comes under suspicion in the disappearance of his wife. The movie, scheduled for release next October, stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
"Gone Girl" is "the most educational, awe-inspiring thing that I've ever done," Perry said in a recent interview.
"Sitting in his presence, in his genius, the man is a genius," he said of Fincher. "It really makes me go, 'Whoa, let me just stop and take this in,' so it's been wonderful."
And, as one filmmaker to another, he's humbled by working with the Oscar-nominated director.
"I'm a storyteller. That man is a di-re-ctor. He is amazing. And to watch him work and to watch how he paints his pictures, the tableaus, everything is really just beyond anything I could ever imagine."
Lane, Dennehy find new home for 'Iceman Cometh'
Nathan Lane and Brian Dennehy will star in a revival of Eugene O'Neill's "The Iceman Cometh" in Brooklyn in 2015.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music said Tuesday the pair of stars, who had been in an acclaimed Goodman Theatre version of the play in 2012 in Chicago, will present the five-hour work for a six-week run in the BAM Harvey Theater from Feb. 5 through March 15.
The director is Robert Falls, artistic director of the Goodman, and the show is produced by BAM and Scott Rudin. Lane was last on Broadway in "The Nance" and Dennehy was in "Desire Under the Elms."
